MUSCAT : The exhibition was inaugurated today, November 14, in conjunction with the eighth session of the Omani-Bahraini Joint Committee.
The opening ceremony was attended by H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain, along with cultural experts as well as prominent dignitaries from both countries.
The exhibition features a curated collection of historical photographs and artifacts that highlight the enduring fraternal relationship between Oman and Bahrain, spanning from the era of Sultan Taimur bin Faisal to the modern-day reign of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik.
Among the key items on display are a soapstone seal dating back to the Majan and Dilmun civilizations (1600-1100 BC), discovered in the Wilayat of Bidbid, and a painting titled ‘Ruins of a Mosque in Bahrain – the Arabian Gulf’, painted by Captain Charles Golding Constable in 1843. Another significant artifact is a 1924 letter from Sayyid Nader bin Faisal Al Busaidi to Sheikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, ruler of Bahrain, highlighting the historical diplomacy between the two nations.
The exhibition also showcases a commemorative shield presented to Sultan Qaboos bin Said in 1982 during the laying of the foundation stone for the sea bridge project between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Additionally, a ceremonial dagger from Sultan Qaboos’s collection, a gift from Bahrain, is featured, dating from the late 20th to early 21st century.
A special focus is placed on maritime history with a display of the museum edition ‘The Collection of Marine Science’, which includes a manuscript by Omani navigator Ahmed bin Majid Al-Saadi. The manuscript mentions Bahrain in several of its sections, underscoring the longstanding maritime connections between the two nations.
The opening ceremony also included a visual presentation by the Ministry of Information, showcasing the deep-rooted and fraternal ties between Oman and Bahrain through the years.
The exhibition will remain open to the public for a week, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the shared history and strong bonds that have been cultivated by the leadership of both nations over the years.
