Muscat – This brings the total number of localised projects in the city to 113, covering industrial, commercial, service, residential, and academic sectors.
The cumulative investment in Sur Industrial City has reached an impressive RO 2.3 billion. The city currently supports around 2,737 employees across its projects, with the Omanisation rate exceeding 55 percent. Spanning an area of 36 million square meters, the industrial city continues to be a key hub for economic development in Oman.
Engineer Nasser bin Hamoud Al Mabsali, Director General of Sur Industrial City, highlighted the ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure and support business growth within the city. “Madayn is actively working on several vital projects, including the design and construction of a new sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 500 cubic meters per day. The project is 82 percent complete and is expected to begin operations early next year,” he said.

The security upgrade is expected to be finalized by the end of this year.
Another major initiative, the green belt afforestation project, is also nearing completion with 95 percent of the work finished. Both projects are expected to be completed before the end of 2024. Al Mabsali further pointed out that several upcoming projects are in the pipeline, including a consultancy service to develop infrastructure for ship docking in Sur Industrial City. The tender for this project was floated earlier this year, and the technical and financial evaluation of the bids is currently underway.
The city is also preparing for consultancy services for the design of its master plan development project, which is expected to begin early next year.
In line with its efforts to support small and medium enterprises, Sur Industrial City is facilitating subcontracting opportunities between large companies and local businesses. Al Mabsali emphasized that these initiatives are part of the city’s broader strategy to foster economic growth and create new opportunities for Omani entrepreneurs
