MUSCAT: As the demand for passengers travelling back home in the wake of coronavirus crisis has significantly reduced, India is likely to end its repatriation flight operations from Oman this month.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Arabian Stories, His Excellency Munu Mahawar, India Ambassador said the bulk of repatriation is expected to be over by mid of July. “We expect the bulk of repatriation to be over by the middle of this month. There will still be people who will be interested in travelling. It depends whether normal air travel is able to resumes. If the normal air travel resumes then there is no need for these special flights. But if there is demand then of course, we will continue to organise more special flights,” he said.

According to the Ambassador, over 25,000 stranded Indians have been repatriated in over 140 flights since May. The embassy also approved special charter flights for corporate companies and various social organisations.
