Muscat – The Directorate General of CPA in North Batinah Governorate successfully mediated a dispute between a consumer and a local establishment in the industrial equipment and tools sector. The settlement resulted in a refund of RO 9,700 to the consumer.
The resolution process was initiated after the Directorate received a complaint from the customer, who reported that he had fully paid for marine equipment but had not received the goods as promised. Dissatisfied with the unfulfilled contract, the consumer approached the Directorate seeking to terminate the agreement and recover his payment.
Responding promptly, the Directorate summoned both parties and conducted the necessary proceedings to mediate the dispute. This led to a mutually agreeable settlement, which included the termination of the contract and the full refund of RO 9,700, in accordance with Article 23 of the Consumer Protection Law. This article mandates that service providers deliver services in a proper and timely manner, and if they fail to do so, they are required to refund the service value or rectify any deficiencies.
The Authority emphasizes the importance of adherence to consumer protection laws and regulations, urging suppliers to fulfil their contractual obligations. Compliance not only safeguards consumer rights but also enhances the integrity of goods and services offered in the market.
