Oman announces national survey to contain Covid-19 pandemic

With Covid-19 cases going up steadily Ministry of Health on Thursday said it will launch a national survey for 10 weeks for both citizens and expats to measure the prevalence of the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to reporters, Dr. Saif Al Abri, Director General of Disease Surveillance and Control said the survey will start on July 12.

“The research will be carried out in cooperation with the national center for statistics and information at the level of all governorates and wilayats as a cross-sectional survey of different ages, including omanis and expats as well as collecting demographic data and blood samples to examine the antibodies of covid 19 patients,” he said.

The survey will last for a period of 10 weeks starting from July 12 for four stages.

“We hope everyone will cooperate,” he added.

Oman has seen a rise in the coronavirus cases over the last one week, taking the total to 42,555 on Thursday.
