MUSCAT: As the number of coronavirus cases are increasing, Supreme Committee will discuss the plans to impose curfew in the country, Oman’s Minister of Health said on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi, said the government is aware of the issue (curfew) raised by the public and it will be presented to the Supreme Committee for discussion. “Whether or not the curfew is approved, everyone must abide by the curfew. The issue has been raised by many people, and will be presented to the Supreme Committee at its next meeting,” Al Saidi said.

According to the Minister, the Supreme Committee will be meeting on Monday, May 18, 2020.

However, he also said that restrictions could be eased if cases drop. “Cases near Muttrah Souq area continues to drop. However, most of the cases are now reported in Wadi Kabir and Hamriya area. If we see a trend in numbers dropping, then we may think of lifting the restrictions. However, as of now, the restrictions will continue until May 29,” he added.

Oman on Thursday confirmed 322 new coronavirus cases, taking the total tally to 4,341.
