MUSCAT:
Dr. Thomas Alexander started his business from humble beginnings with consistent hard work and dedication. Today his company, Al Adrak Trading and Contracting, has been transformed into an internationally recognized engineering construction services firm.

In over three-decades, Al Adrak partnered alongside the government to develop the nation’s infrastructure and driving its modernization. Today, Dr. Alexander, who is the Chief Executive Director of Al Adrak, stands out different from every other businessman in the Sultanate. As Oman is fighting the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, he has handed over his newly built 68-beded hospital ‘AdLife’ in Amerat to Ministry of Health as a quarantine facility to treat Covid-19 patients in the country.

When The Arabian Stories spoke to Alexander, he explained the reasoning behind his move.  “We were preparing for the hospital inauguration and that’s when Covid-19 outbreak started. I have been in Oman for over 30-years. This country is my home. This is the place that made me who I am today. In this pandemic crisis, it is my duty to help in my own way,” he said,

According to Alexander, the six-floor hospital in Al Amerat will be used by the Ministry of Health for treating Covid-19 patients. “More than ever before, this is the time we have to stand united to fight this pandemic,” said Alexander who recently received the Omani citizenship.

Alexander’s company Al Adrak has been providing engineering and construction related services in the country over the last 30-years. “I always felt there is a need to have a full-fledged hospital facility to treat both Omanis and residents and that’s why we decided to build multispecialty hospital here,” he said.

The inauguration of the hospital has been postponed due to the pandemic. “But we have handed over to MOH for a good cause and that gives us more satisfaction than anything else,” Alexander added.
