MUSCAT: The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has launched an app ‘Thakad’ to track prices of foods and essentials, and ensure that consumers continue to get their basic needs at fair prices in spite of the precautionary measures being adopted in view of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
According to PACP, this app will also help the authorities to control the prices of thousands of products sold across commercial centres in Oman.
In its first phase, the app covers more than 90 shopping centers in various governorates of the Sultanate. “Approximately 190,000 commodities and products in these shopping centres will be included in the database of the app.

The idea of the app is based on providing field devices for inspectors and judicial control specialist with prices of thousands of products that have been monitored over the past few years. This will help us to compare the prices of each products and if these shops are found to have increased the prices, we can take legal measures against them,” a PACP official said.
