MUSCAT: The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) has warned retailers as well as shops against taking advantage of the coronavirus outbreak and urged the public to report any instances of price hikes.
Speaking exclusively to The Arabian Stories, a senior official at PACP said retailers must show fairness to the customers. “There is certainly a surge in demand because of the prevalent situation but that does not mean they (retailers) can increase prices. Any such instances must be immediately bought to our notice,” he said.
He also emphasised the need to stay indoors and avoiding panic buying, adding that “by converging around shops, you are risking the spread of COVID-19”.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries also said it is closely monitoring the functions of wholesale markets, especially the Central Vegetable and Fruits Market in Mawaleh in the wake of Covid-19 crisis. “Most agricultural products are available in the market and shipments would be coming to the Sultanate during the next week, which will help maintain stability with regards to supply and prices,” an official from the Ministry said.
