Oman closes borders except for expat resident visa holders and GCC citizens from today

MUSCAT: Only GCC residents and expat resident visa holders will be allowed to enter Oman from Tuesday, as the country will close its borders at 12pm for one month to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The decision to ban the entry of non-Omanis was taken by the Supreme Committee appointed by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to tackle COVID-19 as the confirmed cases touched 24 in Oman on Monday.

Expat resident visa holders can enter

On Monday evening, the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) confirmed that expat resident visa holders can enter Oman but will be places under quarantine. This also applies to Omanis and GCC citizens who will arrive in Oman from March 17, 2020.

The Supreme Committee has also closed all parks and public play areas, suspended Friday prayers and banned all social gatherings, including weddings and funeral ceremonies.

Oman also took several preventive measures including closing schools and colleges for a period of one-month.
