MUSCAT: Electric Vehicle (EV) charing points are mandatory in order to obtain a licence to build any new fuel station in the country, according to His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Oman’s Minister of Commerce and Industry.

“This is the necessity now and it is mandatory to have EV charing points for all new fuel stations,” said Sunaidy while responding to a question at the Majlis Al Shura Council.

The Ministry, according to Sunaidy, is coordinating with all the fuel stations to provide places for charging electric cars.

In December, Oman Oil Marketing Company opened the country’s first green service station with EV charging facility. Located in Rusayl, the station has a range of eco-friendly services including solar panels, LED lights, a Vapor Recovery System and an EV charger. While, Oman Oil also opened the first EV charger at its station in Mazoon street.
