Muscat: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) have warned against new methods fraudsters are using to steal money from citizens and residents’ bank accounts.
In a statement issued on Thursday, ROP urged the public to be vary of the new ways fraudsters are using through social media to steal money.
The police urged public to never entertain unknown messages regarding prize money or blocked accounts as fraudsters use such messages to extract private information that they can use to transfer money or credit from their victims. Some of these messages are circulated on social media, ROP pointed out.

“Ignore all incoming social media calls and messages claiming to be a communication company, a bank or a famous person requesting your personal data, PIN Number, and deceiving that you have won a prize in cash or in kind or offering a financial help,” ROP added.
Recently, many people have reported of messages that claim their card has been suspended or blocked, asking the customer to call the number in the message and give them their bank information – in turn residents losing their money.Police also said that such suspicious calls or messages should be immediately reported to Police via 80077444.
