Environment Authority issues notice to waste management companies in Oman

The Environment Authority has issued a notice to all institutions and companies involved in the collection and transportation of waste within the Sultanate of Oman.

Muscat – This notice is with reference to the Hazardous Waste Management Regulations (Decision No. 93/18) and Waste Export Regulations (Decision No. 15/2021).

To ensure adherence to these regulations, the Environment Authority mandates the following:

1. All waste collection and transport companies must obtain the necessary licenses from the Environment Authority and comply with its requirements.

2. It is not permissible to transfer or sell waste from recycling institutions and companies that are not licensed by the Authority.

3. Commitment to storing this waste correctly to avoid any environmental pollution.

4. Institutions and companies dealing with hazardous waste must obtain licenses for hazardous waste management (transportation and collection). 

5. You must register in the National Waste Management Registry System at the following link: https://waste.ea.gov.om.

6. The quantities collected and transferred must be disclosed every quarter through the system mentioned above.

7. The party receiving the waste must be disclosed and directed to register the produced waste in the system in accordance with Article No. (7) of Decision No. (15/2021).

8. Do not dispose of or export waste except in accordance with the procedures stipulated in Decision No. (15/2021).

9. Providing the Environment Authority with the transferred quantities and the institutions and companies receiving these quantities during January, February, March, and April 2024.

The Environment Authority emphasizes that non-compliance with these regulations will result in legal actions against violators, in accordance with the governing laws and decisions.
