Muscat: In recognition of its ongoing achievements and contributions to enhancing sustainability aspects and integrating them into various plans, projects, and operations, and in line with its commitment to achieving the highest standards of quality and sustainability in all vital aspects for a more prosperous and sustainable future for the Sultanate of Oman, the Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) has won the Gold Award category at the Oman Sustainability Awards 2024 ceremony under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Salim Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, and in the presence of several CEOs and representatives of various government and private institutions.

This ceremony comes as part of the activities and programs of Oman Sustainability Week 2024, aiming to highlight initiatives and achievements in the field of sustainability and to promote the efforts of all Omani institutions, encouraging them to align their targets and plans with national visions and goals aimed at preserving and ensuring the safety and security of the Omani environment, as well as achieving global aspirations in environmental areas, carbon emission reduction, and others.

OETC won the Gold Award category at the Oman Sustainability Awards for its sustainability achievements in environmental, social, and governance areas. The awards witnessed substantial competition, with more than 50 institutions from various fields participating.

Reaffirming OETC’s commitment to sustainability and directing all its efforts and targets in this regard, Eng. Saleh Nasser Al Rumhi, OETC’s CEO, highlighted the company’s adoption of various measures and steps to integrate sustainability into the various operations and OETC’s commitment to aligning its plans with national plans and global targets. He also emphasized the company’s commitment to implementing various initiatives and projects aimed at preserving the Omani environment and enhancing its sustainability for future generations.

Al Rumhi added, “We recognize the importance of working within a framework to achieve national targets, visions, and aspirations represented in Oman Vision 2040, which places sustainability among its highest priorities, to ensure sustainable and comprehensive development in various sectors and to build a more prosperous future for Oman and its people. At OETC, we work diligently and sincerely to achieve these targets according to the established plans within our scope of work, as we work to reduce carbon emissions through the implementation of various projects that contribute to reducing over 474,000 tons annually of these emissions in addition to our efforts to reduce operational costs, respond to growth in various sectors, and enhance the business and investment environment”.

Mrs Samira Salem Al-Mughairi, Communication and Sustainability Manager at OETC, also highlighted the efforts undertaken by the company to support the local community and promote growth in various sectors through various initiatives, projects, and activities aimed at encouraging OETC’s employees and all members of the community to contribute to the developmental process in various fields. She emphasized the continuous efforts in this regard to achieve more accomplishments and targets.

Al-Mughairi added, “We always take the initiative to work on everything that serves local communities and contributes to the development of Oman. We recognize the magnitude of these contributions and their positive impact in advancing national and global visions and aspirations. These efforts reflect the commitment and dedication of OETC to achieve more accomplishments and aspirations. This achievement is not only a testament to what we do but also a translation of efforts that will continue to strive for more achievements beyond what we hope to accomplish”.

It is worth mentioning that OETC, a member of the Nama Group, is the only company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity across the Sultanate’s network. The electricity is transmitted from production stations to distributed load centres in the governorates. The transmission network operates at a voltage of 132kV and above to cover most of the Sultanate’s governorates, whether in the north or the south. Furthermore, OETC manages the interconnection lines between Oman and the GCC interconnection network, which operates at a voltage of 220kV.
