Muscat: A dozen of flights were affected on Wednesday after Muscat International Airport was forced to close its runway because of drone sightings in the vicinity of the airport.
Several flights were affected on Tuesday night from 11:09pm to Wednesday 12:45am, forcing the airport authorities to halt the operations for 90 minutes.
Earlier in a statement, national carrier Oman Air said: “A number of flights were diverted from 11.09 pm on December 24 to 12.45 am on December 25 due to the closure of the Muscat International Airport.”

“All affected flights arrived in Muscat shortly after the runway was reopened. This disruption caused delays for several flights to and from Muscat International Airport,” Oman Air said.
According to sources Oman Air flights from Doha, Kuala Lumpur, Bahrain, Cairo, Riyadh and Kuwait City were diverted to the neighbouring airports.
Early last month, a similar incident happened at the Muscat airport halted operations after a drone was spotted over its airspace.
