Muscat – Valued at $1.6 billion, the Marsa project highlights the growing importance of LNG as a cleaner alternative to traditional marine fuels. This collaboration marks a major step forward in Oman’s efforts to develop its LNG bunkering infrastructure and position itself as a key player in the global LNG market.
The Marsa project reflects a significant development for Oman’s maritime sector, promoting the adoption of cleaner fuels and potentially attracting more traffic to Sohar Port.

The Marsa LNG plant will be 100 percent electrically driven and supplied with solar power, positioning the site as one of the lowest GHG emissions intensity LNG plants ever built worldwide, with a GHG intensity below 3 kg CO2e/boe.

The Final Investment Decision (FID) of the Marsa project combines upstream gas production, downstream gas liquefaction and renewable power generation to position the Sultanate as a hub for low-carbon LNG bunkering operations.

The announcement forms part of the visit to Muscat by Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.

TotalEnergies had signed a Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Oman LNG to offtake 0.8 Mtpa of LNG for ten years from 2025, making the company one of the main offtaker of Oman LNG’s production. The agreement entails the supply of approximately 800,000 metric tons of liquefied natural gas annually to TotalEnergies over a period of 10 years, commencing in 2025.

This landmark agreement marks a milestone in the longstanding cooperation between Oman LNG Company and Total Energies, reflecting Oman LNG’s commitment to supporting the national economy through strategic partnerships and the delivery of LNG from the Sultanate of Oman to global markets.
