MUSCAT: An expat in North Al Shariya has been arrested and sentenced to one month in jail after he was caught selling chewing tobacco and cigarettes in Ibra, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) informed on Monday.
However, the nationality of the expat has not been revealed. The PACP officials found 6,000 packs of Red Royal cigarettes, 150 bags of chewing 150 bags of chewing tobacco and 250 bags of Pan Bahar and in addition to that 12 tablets of Tshana in his possession.
Sale of chewing tobacco in all its form is prohibited in Oman by law. Apart from jail term, the accused will have to pay a fine of OMR 2,000. According to the court ruling, he will be deported after completing his jail term.
