MUSCAT: Erwin Koeman has been sacked as national team coach, Oman Football Association (OFA) has announced on Sunday.
“The Oman Football Association announces the dismissal of Dutch Coach Erwin Koeman from training the senior national team, but will maintain the auxiliary technical staff, until a contract with a new foreign technical team has been agreed,” OFA said in a statement.
Koeman’s sacking was highly anticipated after Oman’s shoddy performance at the recently concluded Gulf Cup in Qatar, where the Red Warriors were knocked out without entering semis.
