MUSCAT: Former Oman coach Pim Verbeek died late on Thursday night four years after being diagnosed with cancer.
The 63-year-old Dutchman who was appointed as Oman coach in 2016 had helped the Sultanate win its second Gulf Cup title in 2017.
In 2005, Verbeek was appointed as the coach of the South Korean Under 23 team by the SKFA, and worked his way up to first-team manager in 2006.

Verbeek also led Australia national team to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and he remains the manager to win a World Cup game for the Socceroos.
They were even on the verge of reaching the knockout stages at the 2010 World Cup, but Australia missed out on goal difference.
“The thoughts and sympathies of everyone in Oman’s football community are with Pim Verbeek’s nearest and dearest at this difficult time,” said Oman Football Association in a statement.
