Muscat – “Through this guide, we present to you the most important Information about prohibited materials and restricted goods and customs declaration of amounts and metals, valuables and important goods, as well as items exempt from customs tax,” states the Guide.
Items that are exempt from customs tax include:
• Projectors, films and supplies
• Mobile phone
• Television and receiver
• Baby strollers
• Sports equipment – personal
• Computer and printer
• Wheelchairs and strollers – special needs
• Medications for personal use
• Clothes and tools – personal use
• Jewelry – personal
• Video cameras – personal use
• Musical instruments
Conditions for exemption from customs tax
• Luggage and gifts must be of a personal nature.
• Its value shall not exceed RO 300.
• It must not be of a commercial nature.
• The permitted number of cigarettes shall not exceed the stipulated number of 400 cigarettes.
• The permitted quantity of alcoholic beverages shall not exceed 4 liters.
• The quantity of portable electronic cigarettes should not exceed two.
• The traveler must be at least eighteen 18 years old.
Restricted goods
The following items are allowed to enter after obtaining approval from the competent government authorities
• Live animals and plants; fertilizers and pesticides
• Medicines, drugs and equipment; medical devices and machines
• Publications and media products
• Transmitters and wireless devices
• Cosmetics and personal care products
• Radio aircraft (drone)
Prohibited goods
These are goods that the Sultanate of Oman prohibits importing as per the unified customs law:
• Explosives
• Narcotics and psychotropic substances
• Weapons of all kinds
• Tools and military type clothing
• Rifles and pistols and children’s toys similar to weapons
• Goods that hide spears or swords
• Natural ivory
• Taser
• Riflescopes and night binoculars
Customs Declaration
The traveler must declare to the customs officer, upon entry or exit from the Sultanate of Oman, the following items: negotiable bearer securities such as cash, checks; securities, stocks, payment orders, precious metals; gold, diamonds and precious stones worth six thousand Omani Riyals or more or its equivalent in other currencies.
“Failure to acknowledge it exposes you to legal liability,” states the Guide.

• Cash amounting to RO 6000 or more or its equivalent in currencies
• Gold, diamonds and stones gems and precious metals
• Restricted goods and materials that are subject to excise tax
Tips for the traveler
• Do not receive or carry bags or luggage from unknown persons in a country of the destination.
• Do not exchange travel luggage with friends in good faith without checking contents.
• Do not hide cash and valuables and do not hesitate to disclose about it (if it reaches the prescribed disclosure limit).
• Provide proof of the legality of possession of some of the goods received by you.
• Follow the instructions issued by airlines and shipping .
• Check the laws in force in the country you are traveling to.
• Follow the instructions of the customs officer at the airport.
