MUSCAT : The Sultanate of Oman’s grand preparations for the much-anticipated ‘Oman 2024’ Hockey5s World Cup have entered the final countdown, set to unfold from January 24 to 31 in Muscat Governorate. The inaugural event, symbolic of universal sportsmanship, was inaugurated today by the main committee of the World Cup, marking a significant milestone in global hockey.

The original championship cup, crafted in gold and weighing 5 kilograms, was revealed during the inauguration in Switzerland. Symbolizing modernity and progression in the sport, this illustrious cup will be the pinnacle of victory at the tournament.

His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth, and Chairman of the Main Committee of the Cup World Hockey Pentathlon, emphasized the mere 30-day countdown to this colossal global spectacle. He highlighted the rigorous efforts of the main and auxiliary committees striving to ensure the success of this international event, spotlighting Oman’s multifaceted allure on the global stage.

Dr. Marwan bin Juma Al Juma, Chairman of the Oman Hockey Federation’s Board of Directors and Director of the Championship Hockey Futsal World Cup, lauded Oman’s ascent to the 26th rank globally in recent years, propelling their commitment to developing hockey and fostering competitive national teams. He highlighted their endeavours to bolster the women’s team and nurture burgeoning talent, envisioning the tournament as a beacon inspiring future generations to embrace hockey.

With participation from 32 teams across both men’s and women’s categories, the Oman 2024 Hockey5s World Cup promises an electrifying display of talent, with nations like Oman, Netherlands, Australia, India, and the United States vying for glory. The state-of-the-art stadium complex in Amerat, designed per International Hockey Federation standards, stands ready to host this global event, showcasing Oman’s dedication to fostering sports excellence worldwide.
