OQ hosts reception to honour accomplished racer Ahmad Al Harthy

MUSCAT : OQ, the Global Integrated Energy Group, celebrated the achievement of Ahmad Al Harthy, the champion racer who finished second in the 100th-anniversary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, World Endurance Championship held in France. The Oman Racing Team made history by achieving such a high placement in a global championship for the first time ever.

During the event, Ashraf bin Hamad Al Maamari, CEO of People, Technology and Culture at OQ, stated, “OQ’s sponsorship of the OQ Champion Ahmad Al Harthy epitomises His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s profound interest in sports, as mentioned during his meeting with Sheikhs and dignitaries of the Al Sharqiyah South governorate on January 9, 2022. His Majesty emphasised that sports have become an industry and an integral part of the country’s development process. Additionally, it reflects our belief in the importance of nurturing Omani champions across various sports on a global stage”.

Al Maamari expressed pride in the accomplishments of the Omani team led by Ahmad Al Harthy as they elevate the reputation of the Sultanate of Oman in international sports arenas. He highlighted that OQ’s sponsorship of Al Harthy’s participation in international races aligns with the growing significance of sports today. Furthermore, he mentioned OQ’s past contributions to sponsoring accomplished athletes such as Mohammed Al Mashaikhi and Omar Al Ghailani, who achieved commendable results in several international tournaments.

Al Maamari highlighted Ahmad Al Harthy’s role as a community role model and the ambassador of Omani brands abroad. Not only does he have an impressive track record of achieving top positions, but he also imparts his experiences to the next generation of aspiring motor racing enthusiasts.

He further affirmed OQ’s commitment to supporting Omani athletes, who proudly represent Oman in various international sports competitions. This dedication stems from the company’s national and social responsibility to empower talented Omanis in their pursuit of excellence.
