PESHAWAR : Twenty-seven children and a teacher were killed when the roof of a school collapsed in the northern Pakistani city of Peshawar on Thursday morning, authorities said, as rescuers searched for children trapped beneath the rubble.
Heavy rainfall caused the roof of the two-storey building to collapse, Bilal Ahmed of the local rescue services told CNN. Rescue teams were working to reach children still trapped inside, he said.
Residents were among the first to reach the scene, while rescue workers arrived within minutes, the Associated Press reported, citing eyewitnesses.
