Washington: The measure was approved late Tuesday, September 15, with all Democrats joined by seven Republicans, marking a slightly larger Republican break with the president than in previous votes. The resolution directs Trump to remove US forces from hostilities with Iran unless military action has been authorised by Congress.
The latest vote is the House’s third attempt to assert congressional authority over the continuing conflict with Iran. Previous War Powers measures have failed to bring an end to US military involvement, with earlier resolutions either stalling in Congress or not ultimately reaching the president’s desk.
It remains uncertain whether the Senate will take up the latest resolution before lawmakers leave Washington ahead of the November midterm elections. A similar measure approved by the House in July has yet to advance in the Senate.

Even if the resolution clears Congress, Trump is widely expected to veto it. Overriding a presidential veto would require a two-thirds majority in both the House and Senate.
