Los Angeles: A television news helicopter crashed and burst into flames in the Chatsworth neighbourhood of Los Angeles on Tuesday evening, killing at least three people in a second tragedy unfolding near the scene of a major road accident.
The helicopter, operated for NBC Los Angeles, was covering a collision involving an SUV and a Metro bus when it went down about 1.6 kilometres from the accident site.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, three people were pronounced dead following the helicopter crash, while another person was taken to hospital. At least one of those killed was on the ground in a parking area near a commercial building.

The impact sparked a fire that damaged nearby vehicles and storage containers before more than 50 firefighters brought the blaze under control. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
The helicopter had been reporting on a separate deadly crash involving an SUV and a Los Angeles Metro bus in Chatsworth. Initial reports from authorities said the road collision also resulted in multiple deaths and injuries.
