MUSCAT: The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has raised the interest rate on repurchase operations with local banks by 25 basis points, taking the rate to 4.5%, the Oman News Agency reported on Wednesday.
The increase of 25 basis points, equivalent to 0.25 percentage points, will take effect from September 17, 2026.

Oman’s rial is pegged to the U.S. dollar, meaning monetary policy in the Sultanate generally moves closely in line with U.S. interest rates to help maintain the currency peg and support monetary stability.
The CBO’s latest move comes amid continued adjustments in global interest rates and financial market conditions.
