MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health said the result reflects the laboratory’s high level of technical efficiency and reinforces its national and regional role in supporting disease surveillance, outbreak response and global polio eradication efforts.
The laboratory has accumulated 10 years of experience and expertise in poliovirus surveillance and diagnosis, achieving a 100 percent success rate in poliovirus isolation proficiency testing.
Beyond its national responsibilities, the facility serves as a regional reference laboratory, providing diagnostic services and supporting surveillance and response programmes in Oman and several other countries across the region.

As part of efforts to further strengthen early detection, an advanced environmental surveillance laboratory was opened in Muscat in 2025, expanding Oman’s capacity to identify poliovirus through environmental monitoring.
Oman’s diagnostic capabilities cover a range of advanced technologies, including virus isolation, molecular testing, genetic sequencing and environmental surveillance.
