Muscat- Indian Social Club Oman (ISC Oman) celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day in grand style, bringing together a large gathering of members of the Indian community for an evening filled with patriotism, culture, music and a strong spirit of unity.

The event was graced by His Excellency Shri Prashant Pise, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, as the Chief Guest. A number of distinguished dignitaries, including Shri Kiran Ashar, Dr. Mohammed Ali, Mr. Aftab Patel, Mr. Mohnish Behl and several other prominent members of the community, were also present on the occasion.

His Excellency the Ambassador extended warm Independence Day greetings to the Indian diaspora in Oman, conveying his best wishes to the community on the occasion of India’s 80th Independence Day.

Welcoming the gathering, Mr. Suhail Khan, Chairman of Indian Social Club Oman, delivered an energetic address and extended his warm wishes to everyone on the occasion. He also recognised the historic significance of the 150th anniversary of India’s national song, “Vande Mataram,” paying tribute to its enduring place in India’s freedom movement and national consciousness.

Balwinder Singh Honoured as “Indian of the Year”

One of the most memorable and moving moments of the evening was the presentation of the prestigious “Indian of the Year” Award to Mr. Balwinder Singh, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to community service and philanthropy.

For several decades, Mr. Balwinder Singh has quietly dedicated himself to charitable and community initiatives at the grassroots level, touching numerous lives through his selfless service.

In an emotionally charged acceptance speech, Mr. Balwinder Singh expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Indian Social Club Oman for the honour. Visibly moved by the recognition, he described the occasion as one of the best days he had spent in Oman, making the presentation an especially poignant moment of the celebrations.

A Colourful Celebration of India’s Cultural Diversity

The evening showcased the extraordinary cultural diversity and artistic talent of the Indian community in Oman.

The Muscat Singers – Open Mic Group of ISC presented a wonderful medley of patriotic songs, filling the venue with the spirit of Independence Day. This was complemented by three energetic performances by various ISC groups, which received enthusiastic appreciation from the audience.

Adding colour, rhythm and regional flavour to the celebrations, 16 Linguistic Wings of Indian Social Club Oman presented an impressive array of folk and cultural performances representing their respective regions of India.

The performances transformed the evening into a vibrant celebration of India’s remarkable diversity, reflecting the spirit of unity in diversity that has long been at the heart of the Indian community in the Sultanate.

Adding an artistic dimension to the celebrations, Rangrez, the artists’ group of ISC, also exhibited a collection of paintings at the venue, giving guests an opportunity to appreciate the creativity and artistic expression of members of the Indian community.

The seamless execution of the celebrations was the result of the relentless efforts of the ISC Management Committee over the past several weeks. Mr. K. M. Shakeel, Hon. General Secretary; Mr. Shameer PTK, Hon. Treasurer; Ms. Shalini Karthik, Hon. Entertainment Secretary; Mr. SDT Prasad, Hon. Cultural Secretary; and Mr. Santhosh Kumar, Hon. Community Welfare Secretary, along with the ISC staff and dedicated volunteers, worked tirelessly to ensure that the entire event was conducted with excellence.

Proposing the Vote of Thanks, Mr. Manoj Ranade, Hon. Joint General Secretary of Indian Social Club Oman, expressed the Club’s sincere gratitude to His Excellency the Ambassador, officials and staff of the Embassy of India, the Linguistic Wing Conveners, their respective committees and individual members whose collective efforts contributed to the success of the celebration.
