MUSCAT: The authority advised visitors to stay away from areas affected by oil substances and warned against swimming in waters where an oil slick has been spotted.
It also urged the public not to attempt to clean up or remove oil spills themselves, stressing that such work should be left to specialised teams.
Members of the public are asked to immediately report oil slicks, damaged marine life or dead marine creatures by calling 93930088.
The Environment Authority also called on the public to follow instructions issued by competent authorities, rely on official sources for information and avoid sharing unverified reports.
