MUSCAT : The portal, available through Musandam Governorate’s official website, forms part of ongoing efforts to accelerate digital transformation, improve electronic services and use modern technologies to support planning and sustainable development.

Amna bint Mohammed Al Shehhi, Director of the Information Technology Department at the General Directorate of Administrative and Financial Affairs in Musandam Governorate, said the platform is designed to strengthen the use of geographic and spatial data in planning and decision-making.

She said the portal provides accurate and updated information through an interactive, user-friendly digital environment.

The platform allows citizens, residents and visitors, as well as government agencies, researchers, investors and entrepreneurs, to explore locations, facilities, tourist attractions and public services across Musandam.

Users can access interactive maps and spatial data that highlight the governorate’s natural, tourism and economic assets, while also supporting the identification of investment opportunities, site analysis and preparation of feasibility studies.

The portal includes several digital tools, including interactive map browsing, advanced searches for locations and facilities, and multiple spatial data layers that can be used for urban planning, scientific research and decision-making.

It is also expected to help unify and connect geographic data within an integrated digital environment, supporting government institutions and improving the efficiency of infrastructure development and urban planning.

Al Shehhi said the launch builds on Musandam’s geographic information systems project and aligns with Oman’s national direction towards digital transformation and enhanced electronic services.

The initiative is expected to improve data management and strengthen the use of information in supporting sustainable development and improving the quality of services provided to beneficiaries.

Al Shehhi added that the portal also represents a foundation for a wider integrated digital ecosystem in Musandam, paving the way for future projects involving smart-city and emerging technologies.

These could include the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence and digital twins, enabling greater integration between different systems and services and supporting Musandam’s transition towards a smarter and more sustainable future.
