MUSCAT: The Deccani Wing of Indian Social Club Oman hosted its signature cultural event, Jashn-e-Deccan 2026, at Oman Hall, College of Banking and Financial Studies in Bousher, on July 31.

Presented by Silver Structures LLC, the event featured renowned qawwali performers Nazeer and Naseer Warsi, popularly known as the Warsi Brothers. The artists are disciples and grandsons of Padma Shri awardee and celebrated qawwali maestro Aziz Ahmed Khan Warsi.

His Excellency Prashant Pise, Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman, attended the event as the chief guest. Other distinguished guests included Suhail Khan, Chairman of Indian Social Club Oman; Aftab Patel, Chief Executive Officer of Al Omaniya; Lei Chenyu, also known as Mars, Country Director of Huawei Oman under MHD-ITICS; and Colonel Abid Ali Al Saadi.

The packed Oman Hall witnessed an energetic performance by the Warsi Brothers, who presented several celebrated compositions from the Sufi qawwali tradition. Their repertoire included popular numbers such as Bhar Do Jholi, Tajdar-e-Haram, Kab Tak Mere Maula, Phir Mang, Phir Mang and Dama Dam Mast Qalandar.

The duo also placed special emphasis on the works of Hazrat Amir Khusro, Amjad Hyderabadi and Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. During a special instrumental segment, they performed musical rhythms representing different regions of India, including Maharashtra, Punjab, Gujarat and Hyderabad, using the tabla and dhol. The segment drew enthusiastic applause from the audience, including the Indian Ambassador.

The programme was hosted by Sayeed Quadri, who enlivened the proceedings with timely Urdu couplets. The evening began with a welcome address by Dr S.M. Wasifuddin, Convener of the Deccani Wing.

The cultural programme also featured poetry by prominent Deccani poets Makhdoom Mohiuddin and Ghouse Khamakha, rendered by Feroze Khan and Dawood Khan respectively.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Prashant Pise shared updates on forthcoming initiatives of the Embassy of India and congratulated the Deccani Wing for its continued service to the Indian community in Oman.

An awards ceremony was held as part of the event to recognise students who had excelled in the recently concluded CBSE examinations. Roofey Manaal and Ramiya Manal were honoured in the Grade 12 category, while Syeda Musfirah Kulsum and Syeda Saleha Yasmin were recognised for their achievements in Grade 10.

Mohammed Maaz Quadri and Nusrat Mohiuddin received awards under the special category.

Community service awards were also presented to Salman Amjad, Dawood Khan, Syed Fasiuddin and Mohammed Abdul Aziz in recognition of their contributions.

Dr Wasifuddin presented a commemorative memento to Ambassador Prashant Pise. The Ambassador, in turn, presented special mementos to Suhail Khan and Syed Ahmed Salman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Indian Schools Oman, recognising their services to the Indian community in the Sultanate. The organisers described Jashn-e-Deccan 2026 as one of the most successful cultural events organised in Oman by the Indian diaspora.

Azim Shafi, the event in-charge, played a leading role in organising the programme. He was supported by Mansoor Sabri, Co-Convener of the Deccani Wing, along with management committee members Masihuddin, Shahbaz and Kauther Khan.

The task force included Habib Salam, Abdul Gaffar, Viquaruddin, Nizam, Aleem, Imran, Qhizer and Zain. Hyderabadi-Omani patrons Zaheer Aldin, Syed Samiuddin and Mohammed Ali also extended their support to the event.
