MUSCAT: It warned that traffickers are using deceptive tactics, including online grooming, false promises, financial exploitation, and fraud, to target victims.
Marking the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on July 30, the commission stressed the importance of verifying information through official sources before taking any action and reporting suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
The OHRC said traffickers continue to adapt their methods to target victims through online enticement, forged documents, emotional manipulation, financial exploitation, and, in some cases, detention and enslavement.
As part of its awareness campaign, the commission encouraged the public to support victims of human trafficking, report suspected cases, verify the authenticity of information, and stay informed about emerging threats.
This year’s global campaign is being observed under the theme ‘Trapped Behind the Scam’, highlighting the growing link between online scams and human trafficking networks and the need for greater public awareness to prevent exploitation.
