Oman weather alert: Met Office warns of thunderstorms, strong winds and dust in several areas

Oman Meteorology has issued alerts for thunderstorms, downdraft winds, active winds, dust storms and rain across several parts of the Sultanate of Oman on Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

MUSCAT: The weather authority said cumulus clouds are beginning to form over parts of the Hajar Mountains, with chances of scattered rain, at times accompanied by thunderstorms and active descending winds.
A high-severity alert for downdraft winds has been issued for northern parts of Al Buraimi and North Al Batinah Governorates from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. A medium-severity downdraft wind alert is also in place for parts of the Al Hajar Mountains and surrounding areas during the same period.
Oman Meteorology has also warned of medium-severity thundershowers in parts of the Al Hajar Mountains and adjacent areas, as well as parts of Dhofar Governorate, from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm.
Medium-severity active wind alerts are expected from 12:00 pm to 11:00pm in Al Jazer, Duqm, Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Sadah, Shalim, the Hallaniyat Islands, Mahout and Masirah.
The authority issued a medium-severity dust storm alert for Adam, Al Mazyunah, Thumrait, Ibri, Muqshin and Haima, including Sultan Said Bin Taimur Road, during the period from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Limited rainfall is also expected in the mountains of Dhofar Governorate and along its coasts from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
