MUSCAT – The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology said the projects cover road dualization, new road construction, completion of ongoing works and upgrades to existing networks, supporting urban expansion, economic activity, tourism and social development across the governorate.

One of the key projects is the Wadi Bani Khalid Aqaba Road, which extends for 9 kilometres and has a contract value of RO 13.2 million. The project has achieved more than 85 percent completion and is expected to improve access between Wadi Bani Khalid town and its major tourist attractions, including natural caves and other visitor destinations.

The ministry also recently completed the paving of Al Aflaj Road in Al Mudhaibi, covering a length of 22 kilometres.

In Ibra, the project to dualize the Al Yahmedi-Al Qafisi Road has been awarded at a value of RO 29.1 million. The 15.6-kilometre project aims to accommodate rising traffic volumes, connect new residential areas and reduce travel times within the wilayat.

Work is also continuing on the Mahlah-Ghabra Al Tam-Ismailia Al Khabah Road in Dima and Al Taiyyin, with a length of 3 kilometres and a value exceeding RO 8 million. The road will serve villages and population centres while improving links to the main road network.

The ministry has awarded several other strategic projects, including the road linking Ibra and Dima Wal Taiyyin at a value of RO 4.84 million, and the White Mountain Road project in Dima Wal Taiyyin for RO 13.5 million. The latter aims to open new areas for investment and residential development while improving access to mountainous areas.

In Al Qabil, the paving project covering Seih Green Road, Al Aqida Road, Al Salil and Al Batin Road was awarded at a value of RO 12.42 million to improve internal road infrastructure and serve population centres and archaeological sites.

The ministry also awarded the first phase of the Sinaw-Mahout-Duqm Road improvement project at a value of RO 9.21 million. The project includes upgrades at seven key locations, including the Masroun roundabout, road paving works, safety barriers, signage and service roads.

The project also includes the construction of service roads stretching 9 kilometres and a link road to Al Khashba village in Al Mudhaibi, supporting industrial, commercial and tourism activities in the governorate.

Another major project is the completion of remaining works on Sultan Turki bin Said Road, covering sections in North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah, with a contract value of RO 15.6 million. The road serves as a key connection between the two governorates and is expected to ease pressure on internal roads.

The ministry said design work has been completed for the future dualization of the Sultan Turki bin Said-Al Mudhaibi-Sinaw Road, paving the way for its implementation in the coming period.

The road development programme forms part of Oman’s 2026 national priorities, with projects focused on improving traffic safety, supporting economic and tourism growth, enhancing movement of goods and people, and strengthening transport links in line with Oman Vision 2040 and sustainable development goals.
