Oman inflation hits 2.8% in June as food prices surge, vegetables jump 23.6%

The Sultanate of Oman's inflation rate reached 2.8 percent in June 2026 compared with the corresponding month of 2025 according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).

MUSCAT – The average inflation rate for the period from January to June 2026 also stood at 2.8 percent. The data showed that the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages group recorded the highest annual increase among the main CPI categories, rising by 6.1 percent.
This was followed by Miscellaneous Goods and Services, which increased by 5.7 percent, Transport by 5.5 percent, Restaurants and Hotels by 4.6 percent, and Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance by 3.1 percent. Prices for Education rose by 2.2 percent, while Health increased by 1.8 percent.
Meanwhile, prices in the Recreation and Culture category edged up by 0.3 percent, while Communication, Tobacco, and Clothing and Footwear remained unchanged compared with June 2025. In contrast, prices for Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels declined by 0.6 percent year-on-year.
At the governorate level, A’Dhahirah recorded the highest inflation rate in Oman at 3.5 percent during June 2026, followed by Muscat at 3.2 percent, A’Dakhiliyah at 3.1 percent, Al Wusta at 3.0 percent, and Al Buraimi at 2.9 percent.
Inflation reached 2.4 percent in both Musandam and South Al Batinah, followed by Dhofar at 2.2 percent, while North Al Batinah and South A’Sharqiyah each recorded 2.1 percent. North A’Sharqiyah posted the lowest inflation rate among Oman’s governorates at 1.9 percent.
Within the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages category, several subgroups registered notable year-on-year price increases compared with June 2025. Vegetable prices surged by 23.6 percent, followed by Fruit (9.9 percent), Meat (7.3 percent), Non-Alcoholic Beverages (3.6 percent), and Milk, Cheese and Eggs (2.9 percent).
Prices also increased for Sugar, Jam, Honey and Confectionery (2.2 percent), Food Products Not Elsewhere Classified (2.0 percent), Bread and Cereals (0.9 percent), and Oils and Fats (0.5 percent). In contrast, Fish prices declined by 1.7 percent compared with June 2025.
