MUSCAT – His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik sent a cable of condolences to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar, following the death of his father, former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Oman News Agency (ONA) reported on Sunday.
In the message, His Majesty Sultan Haitham conveyed his sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Sheikh Tamim, the Qatari leadership and the people of Qatar over the loss.
His Majesty the Sultan prayed that Sheikh Hamad be granted God’s mercy and eternal peace, and that his family and the people of Qatar be given patience and strength during this difficult time.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who ruled Qatar from 1995 until his abdication in favour of Sheikh Tamim in 2013, died on Sunday at the age of 74, according to Qatar’s Amiri Diwan. A period of national mourning has been declared in the country following his death.
