MUSCAT: Motorists in Oman will now be allowed to tint their vehicle side and rear windows by up to 50%, following a new regulation announced by the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
The revised rule marks a significant change from previous tinting limits and is aimed at providing greater convenience for vehicle owners while maintaining road safety standards. Under the new regulation, the front windscreen must remain free of tinting and is not permitted to be darkened.
The ROP said the maximum permissible tint level for side and rear windows has been set at 50%. Vehicles fitted with factory-coloured side glass will also be eligible for licensing, provided the glass maintains a light transmission rate of at least 30%.

In addition to the tinting changes, the police confirmed that matte vehicle wraps and paint finishes are permitted, subject to compliance with approved specifications.
The announcement was made through an official awareness campaign by the ROP, which urged motorists to ensure their vehicles comply with the updated requirements.
