MUSCAT – To mark the occasion, SalamAir hosted an official ceremony today at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Muscat, attended by senior government officials, aviation and tourism sector representatives, members of the diplomatic corps, and media representatives from both countries.
The new service will operate two weekly flights using Airbus A320neo aircraft, offering passengers a direct and cost-effective travel option between Muscat and Medan.
The airline said the route is expected to strengthen economic, tourism, and cultural ties between Oman and Indonesia, while also providing improved access for travellers, including demand for Umrah travel via Muscat with connections to Jeddah and Madinah.
Indonesia is considered one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing aviation and tourism markets, with Medan serving as a key gateway to North Sumatra and attractions such as Lake Toba, a UNESCO Global Geopark.
SalamAir Chief Executive Officer Adrian Hamilton-Manns said the launch of flights to Indonesia marks an important milestone in the airline’s growth journey and reflects its commitment to improving air connectivity between Oman and underserved markets in Asia.

He added that the new route is expected to support tourism, trade, and bilateral relations between Oman and Indonesia.
Heru Budiarso, Minister Plenipotentiary and Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Muscat, said the new direct connection represents a significant development in relations between the two countries and will further enhance cooperation in tourism, trade, investment, and cultural exchange.
The Medan route forms part of SalamAir’s wider expansion strategy as the airline continues to grow its international network across the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Europe.
