MUSCAT : As soaring temperatures and rising electricity consumption continue to challenge households and businesses across Oman, solar-powered cooling is emerging as a practical solution to reduce energy costs and support the Sultanate’s clean energy ambitions.

At the forefront of this shift is VOLTOVA, Oman’s first solar hybrid air conditioner brand, which this month marked its first year in the market with the launch of an expanded range of solar cooling products and renewable energy solutions.

Introduced by Middle East Pearl International LLC (MEPI) in 2025, VOLTOVA was developed to address one of the country’s biggest energy challenges: the heavy reliance on conventional electricity for air conditioning. Cooling accounts for a significant share of power consumption in Oman, particularly during the summer months when temperatures regularly exceed 45 degrees Celsius.

By harnessing solar energy during the day—when cooling demand is at its highest—VOLTOVA systems reduce dependence on grid electricity while delivering reliable performance in some of the Sultanate’s most demanding environments.

Unlike traditional air conditioners, VOLTOVA units operate directly from solar panels without requiring batteries for daytime use. The systems intelligently switch between three operating modes — 100 percent solar, hybrid solar and grid power, and grid-only operation — ensuring uninterrupted cooling while maximizing the use of renewable energy.

Over the past year, the technology has been deployed across homes, offices, commercial facilities, industrial sites, telecom installations and remote oil and gas operations, helping users cut electricity costs and reduce their carbon footprint.

MEPI said the brand has demonstrated that solar cooling is no longer a niche concept but a viable and cost-effective solution for Oman’s climate and energy needs.

“Solar energy and air conditioning are naturally aligned because peak sunshine hours coincide with peak cooling demand,” the company noted. “This enables consumers to use the sun’s energy when they need cooling the most, significantly reducing operating costs.”

To meet growing demand, the company announced a major expansion of the VOLTOVA product portfolio.

The new range includes solar hybrid multi-zone split systems capable of powering multiple indoor units from a single outdoor system, making them suitable for villas, offices and larger residential properties. Solar hybrid cassette and ducted systems have also been introduced for commercial buildings, mosques, showrooms, halls and institutional facilities.

For smaller installations, VOLTOVA has launched a solar hybrid window air conditioner designed to provide an affordable entry point into solar-powered cooling.

The company also unveiled an off-grid 48V DC solar air conditioner designed for locations where grid electricity is unavailable. The unit operates directly from solar panels during the day and automatically switches to battery power at night or during low sunlight conditions, making it suitable for remote desert sites, farms, telecom towers and security facilities.

In a move beyond air conditioning, MEPI announced the introduction of a solar-powered water heater and chiller system for rooftop water tanks. The technology is designed to keep water cool during the summer and warm during winter using renewable energy, addressing a common challenge faced by households across Oman.

To further support adoption, MEPI has partnered with Bank Nizwa through a signed memorandum of understanding to provide Shari’ah-compliant green financing solutions for VOLTOVA products.

The financing programme is expected to make solar cooling systems more accessible to homeowners and businesses by reducing upfront investment costs and spreading payments over manageable terms.

As Oman continues to pursue its renewable energy and sustainability goals, MEPI believes solar-powered cooling will play an increasingly important role in reducing energy demand, lowering emissions and enhancing energy efficiency across the country.

With its expanded product range and focus on innovation, the company says VOLTOVA is positioning itself not only as an air-conditioning brand but as a broader clean-energy platform aimed at transforming how Oman cools its homes, businesses and remote operations.

“Solar cooling is no longer a future concept—it is a practical solution available today,” the company said. “Our vision is to help Oman harness its abundant sunshine to create a more sustainable and energy-efficient future.”
