MUSCAT – The Cultivation of Arabic Coffee in the Dhofar Mountains project, implemented by the General Directorate of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in Dhofar Governorate, seeks to create new economic opportunities in mountain communities, support family incomes and open investment opportunities in coffee production and marketing.
The four-year project, running from September 1, 2024, to August 30, 2028, has a total cost of RO 93,000 and is funded by the Agricultural and Fisheries Development Fund.
The initiative is being carried out in the wilayats of Salalah, Taqah and Mirbat, where the moderate climate and suitable environmental conditions of the Dhofar Mountains provide an ideal setting for cultivating Arabic coffee.
The project’s first phase, covering 30 farms, has been completed with 750 coffee seedlings planted, achieving a 100 percent completion rate.
The second phase, involving 20 farms, was implemented in October 2025 and has reached a 90 percent completion rate, with 2,000 seedlings planted.
The third phase is scheduled to begin in October 2026 and will cover 20 additional farms, with plans to cultivate a further 2,000 coffee seedlings.
The project aims to strengthen the agricultural heritage of Omani coffee while contributing to sustainable development by introducing a promising economic activity in mountainous areas.
