MUSCAT – The TRA has issued a decision amending provisions of the Regulation Governing the Registration and Use of Radio Frequencies and Determining Their Prices, originally issued under Decision No. 133/2008, as part of efforts to keep pace with rapid technological developments in the telecommunications sector.
The amendments are aimed at enhancing spectrum management efficiency, supporting the deployment of modern telecommunications services and creating a regulatory framework that enables emerging technologies and evolving market requirements in the Sultanate of Oman.
According to the authority, the revised regulation seeks to ensure the optimal use of the radio frequency spectrum, encourage investment, facilitate the expansion of telecommunications services and simplify procedures for obtaining radio licences.
The amendments are also intended to better reflect the economic value of the frequency spectrum and promote its efficient utilisation, while supporting digital transformation through the rollout of advanced communications networks and technologies that rely on wireless and satellite communications.
The authority said the updated framework is expected to strengthen the management and use of the radio spectrum as a limited national resource, improve the investment environment for communications and emerging technologies, and align radio communications service fees with developments in the sector.
The regulation applies to Class 1 licensed operators providing broadband services via satellite, Class 3 licensed operators, as well as aircraft and ship terminal licensees.
