MUSCAT – This initiative is designed to solicit the views of all relevant stakeholders regarding the foremost regulatory, legal, and technical challenges associated with child protection in the digital environment. The consultation comes amid accelerating global trends toward the adoption of legislation aimed at regulating children’s access to social media platforms.
The consultation centres on several key thematic areas. These include identifying the legal and regulatory challenges pertaining to child protection, exploring feasible technical solutions for age verification and restricting minors’ exposure to inappropriate content, discussing the obligations of digital platforms, and examining the roles and responsibilities of parents and guardians. The ultimate objective is to generate actionable insights that will contribute to the development of clear, enforceable, and well-defined legislation.
The Authority has invited all relevant entities, institutions, and members of the public to participate in the dedicated survey designed for this consultation. Stakeholders are encouraged to submit their observations and proposals, which will serve to enhance the quality of the resulting legislative outputs and ensure alignment with international best practices in this critical field.
