Oman to enforce phase 5 of plastic bag ban in retail outlets and car dealerships from July 1

The Environment Authority has announced that the fifth phase of Oman’s phased ban on plastic shopping bags will come into effect on July 1, 2026, extending the restrictions to additional commercial sectors.

MUSCAT : The authority said the move is being implemented in accordance with the timeline attached to Decision No. 8/2024 on the prohibition of plastic shopping bags.

Under Phase Five, the ban will apply to furniture stores, blanket and similar retail outlets, Khanjar shops, gold and silver stores, vehicle care centres and vehicle dealerships.

The Environment Authority called on companies, establishments and individuals across both the public and private sectors to comply with the requirements of the decision and ensure adherence to the approved implementation schedule.
