Sultan Qaboos University’s Engineering Research Journal achieves Q3 ranking

MUSCAT : The Journal of Engineering Research (TJER), issued by Sultan Qaboos University (SQU), achieved an increase in its CiteScore to 1.5, alongside a rise in its ranking to the third quartile (Q3) in the field of general engineering, advancing 15 ranks compared to last year.

This achievement reflects the growing scientific impact of the journal and its enhanced presence in the international scientific publishing ecosystem. This classification is considered a significant milestone in the journal’s journey, representing an acknowledgment of its scientific standing and its ability to attract specialized research contributions from researchers and academics both within and outside the Sultanate of Oman.

Prof. Amer Saif Al Hinai, SQU Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research, stated that the elevation of the Journal of Engineering Research to the Q3 ranking reflects the university’s direction toward enhancing its research presence in international indicators and solidifying its role in producing specialized knowledge with both academic and developmental impact.

He added that this reflects the university’s ability to build scientific platforms capable of reaching the international research community and highlighting Omani contributions in the fields of engineering and technology. It also contributes to supporting the university’s competitiveness and opening broader horizons for research cooperation with academic institutions and scientific centers worldwide.

Al Hinai emphasized that the university continues to invest in the scientific research and academic publishing ecosystem as one of its primary pathways to enhance scientific research and innovation, support national priorities, and raise the scientific impact of its research outputs at regional and international levels.

For his part, Prof. Farouk Sabri Mjalli, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Engineering Research, explained that reaching the Q3 classification represents the fruit of continuous institutional work and collective efforts exerted by the editorial board members, reviewers, and researchers. This is in addition to the journal’s strict commitment to applying rigorous scientific publishing standards and enhancing the quality of the engineering research it publishes.

He noted that this achievement is a driving step toward further development, aiming to elevate the journal’s level and increase its presence in global databases. This ultimately serves researchers and enhances Sultan Qaboos University’s standing in the international research landscape.

Prof. Farouk affirmed that the journal is proceeding with developing its editorial and peer-review procedures, raising the efficiency of the publishing system, and expanding its network of international researchers and reviewers. These efforts align with global trends in academic publishing and enhance the reliability of the published scientific content.

The Journal of Engineering Research has published 39 issues to date and has been indexed in the Scopus database since 2009, reflecting its distinguished research standing and the quality of its scientific production.
