MUSCAT : The authority announced the new regulations earlier this month, mandating the use of pallets for imported goods to improve cargo handling efficiency, accelerate customs clearance and facilitate trade across the Sultanate.

Under the new mechanism, implementation will be phased. The requirement will first apply to shipments arriving through land ports starting July 15, 2026, followed by air and sea ports from September 15, 2026.

The regulation applies to goods that can be transported using wooden, plastic or metal pallets. However, exemptions include items that cannot be palletised such as stone blocks and marble, coils, pipes, heavy equipment and bulk materials.

Oman Customs has urged traders and importers to comply with the new requirements, warning that non-compliant shipments will be returned to their place of origin.
