MUSCAT – The statistical breakdown reveals a heavy concentration of separations in the country’s most densely populated urban centres. Muscat Governorate consistently accounts for the highest share of national divorce cases, with its 1,220 divorces representing exactly 28.9 percent of all certificates issued. Dhofar Governorate followed as the second highest with 716 cases, or 17 percent of the total.
The remainder of the cases were distributed across the other governorates, led by North Al Batinah with 705 cases and South Al Batinah with 344 cases.
Other governorates recorded lower numbers, including Al Dakhiliyah with 314 cases, South and North Al Sharqiyah with 263 cases each, Al Dhahirah with 149 cases, Al Buraimi with 144 cases, Al Wusta with 64 cases, and Musandam with 26 cases.
According to experts, the slight year-on-year rise reflects broader social patterns affecting family stability, including economic pressures, evolving lifestyles, and communication challenges within households.
