MUSCAT – The launch coincides with the introduction of immunocompatibility testing using flow cytometry, one of the most advanced methods used to assess compatibility between organ donors and recipients before transplantation.
While histocompatibility testing has been available in Oman for several years, flow cytometry crossmatch testing was previously conducted abroad, requiring patient samples to be sent overseas for analysis and results.
With the new laboratory now operational, all histocompatibility and immunocompatibility tests, including flow cytometry-based testing, can be performed locally for the first time.
The development is expected to accelerate the evaluation of transplant cases, shorten turnaround times for results, improve clinical decision-making and reduce costs associated with sending samples outside the country.
