MUSCAT : The consultation, open until June 30, 2026, forms part of the country’s broader efforts to prepare for the introduction of 6G technologies and align national telecommunications development with emerging global standards.

According to the TRA, the consultation seeks views from telecom operators, industry stakeholders, academia, businesses, and the public on key issues that will shape Oman’s 6G ecosystem, including spectrum allocation, infrastructure readiness, regulatory frameworks, and future use cases for advanced mobile communications.

Among the primary objectives is assessing Oman’s readiness for IMT-2030 technologies and identifying stakeholder priorities regarding network coverage, performance capabilities, and emerging digital services. The authority is also seeking feedback on spectrum requirements, particularly potential candidate frequency bands including 4.4–4.8 GHz, 7.125–8.4 GHz, 14.8–15.35 GHz, and frequencies above 90 GHz.

The consultation additionally focuses on future infrastructure needs required to support 6G deployment, including fibre backhaul networks, edge computing capabilities, small-cell infrastructure, non-terrestrial network (NTN) integration, and cloud-native core systems.

TRA said the initiative aims to ensure that national development plans remain aligned with global 6G standardization efforts being undertaken by international bodies such as the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R), the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), the Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance (NGMN), and regional 6G initiatives.

Key discussion areas include potential IMT-2030 use cases across different industries in Oman, national priorities for 6G performance capabilities such as ultra-low latency, high reliability, sensing and positioning functions, and artificial intelligence-native network architectures.

The authority is also seeking views on policy and regulatory considerations, including cybersecurity, sustainability, licensing models, investment requirements, deployment timelines, and opportunities for local research, innovation, and pilot projects.

Responses can be submitted through the electronic questionnaire made available by the TRA, with all feedback to be reviewed before future policy and regulatory decisions are finalized. The submission deadline is June 30, 2026.
