MUSCAT : The launch took place during a meeting attended by representatives from the Directorate General of Vocational Colleges at the Ministry of Labour, the administration of the Vocational College in Saham, and the company responsible for project implementation.

The project seeks to enhance the alignment of education and training outcomes with evolving professional requirements and to improve the readiness of national competencies by enabling them to acquire professional certifications and specialized skills required for current and future jobs.

The first phase of the project is being piloted at the Vocational College in the Wilayat of Saham, serving as the launch site for the professional certification pathways model across Oman’s vocational colleges.
Lessons learned from this pilot will guide the model’s national expansion, with the goal of improving the efficiency of the vocational education and training system and its ability to meet labour market needs.

The meeting reviewed the project’s objectives, implementation methodology, work plan, and timeline for the executive phases. Discussions also covered the outcomes of the first phase, including the identification of priority professional certifications, analysis of professional accreditation requirements, assessment of the college’s readiness, and the preparation of implementation roadmaps for the proposed pathways.

The meeting further addressed coordination and integration mechanisms among partner entities, as well as their respective roles in project implementation, to ensure the achievement of targets and the sustainability of outcomes. This will help establish an institutional model that is replicable and scalable across vocational colleges in the Sultanate of Oman.

Participants at the meeting emphasised the project’s importance in developing the professional certification system within vocational colleges by providing recognized career pathways linked to academic specializations and labour market needs. This is expected to enhance the academic and professional value of qualifications, increase graduate competitiveness, and improve their access to quality jobs.

The project is anticipated to contribute to national efforts aimed at qualifying and employing the Omani workforce, enabling national competencies to acquire advanced professional skills aligned with current and future labour market requirements, thereby strengthening their readiness to compete in promising sectors.

The project also represents a significant step toward enhancing the added value of vocational education and training outcomes and raising the competitiveness of Omani competencies in the labour market.
