MUSCAT: Oman experienced intense heat during May 2026, with the highest temperature in the Sultanate reaching 49.1 degrees Celsius in Barka, according to monthly climate statistics released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
The data showed that Barka recorded the highest temperature nationwide during the month, followed by Suwaiq at 48.8°C, Saham at 48.6°C, Al Khabourah at 48.5°C, and Wadi Al Maawil at 48°C.
Meanwhile, the coolest temperature recorded during May was 10.4°C in Jabal Shams, Oman’s highest peak. Other low temperatures were registered in Saiq (15.8°C), Jabal Harim (16°C), Al Sininah (18.4°C), and Yanqul (19.5°C).

The CAA also noted that the highest temperature recorded at the Al Wafi meteorological station since its operation began was 48°C in May 2025. In May 2026, the station registered a peak temperature of 47.9°C, making it the second-highest reading since the station was installed in January 2019.
The figures highlight the significant temperature variations across Oman’s diverse geography, ranging from cooler mountainous regions to the intensely hot coastal and inland areas during the summer season.
